Austin, Texas is widely known as “The Live Music Capital of the World,” largely due to its plethora of music tributes and opportunities to catch live shows almost daily.

History

The city has a rich history of music dating back to the late 1800s where German music could be heard down Pecan Street (present day 6th Street) and several jazz venues opened up in the 1920s. The 1930s and 1940s brought country and classic big band music to the stage, followed closely by rock and roll in the 1960s and 1970s. For more of Austin’s music history, CLICK HERE.

In addition to other unique features, this annual event displays hundreds of emerging and well-known music artists from around the world that travel for the opportunity to perform all over the city. Enthusiasts can enjoy a variety of music styles at SXSW, and even discover new artists.

The fall season brings the Austin City Limits Music Festival (ACL). Strictly dedicated to music, this two-weekend event features more than 140 bands across multiple stages in Zilker Park. Much like other music festivals, ACL hosts a variety of talent and genres from both popular artists, and those eager to gain new audiences.
